√ Neat and organized

√ Free from any distractions including televisions, video games, stereos, friends, siblings…

1. If your child consistently takes too much time to do homework, the best thing to do is;

√ Break the work up into smaller tasks for the child.

√ Suggest regular study breaks to avoid frustration.

1. If your child requires assistance with his/her homework, the best thing to do is:

√ Get them started on the first few questions, and then let them work alone.

√ Check in periodically, and praise the process that they have made.

1. Put due dates for assignments on the family calendar. Post the calendar where you know your child will see it.

1. Suggest that your child use the skills and techniques he/she learned at Huntington to complete assignments, or study for exams.

1. The first month of the school year sets the tone for the whole year.

√ Praise your child when they hand in their first assignment, or get their first good grade.
